PURPOSE/HISTORY
|
The purpose of the Hospitality House Ministry is to promote the public welfare and alleviate the hardships of the disadvantaged by ministering to the physical and religious needs of families of prisoners incarcerated in the penal system of the state of Texas. These families are the "other victims" of crimes.
The Hospitality House originated as a concept of service in the Prison Committee of the Texas Baptist Men. Texas Baptists raised funds and materials, and the TBM Retiree Builders assembled approximately 270 people on the 23rd of May 1986, for a 24-hour buildout of the 7,000 square foot facility with 48 beds.
People have come, approximately 5,000 per year, from all around the world and nearly every state of the Union to visit loved ones incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the Huntsville area.
The Hospitality House is governed by the board of the Texas Baptist Prison Family Ministry Foundation. Board members include representatives of the State Missions Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Texas Baptist Men and Tryon-Evergreen Baptist Association.

HEARD AND READ AROUND THE HOUSE: There is no way I could have visited my loved one without this place!. You folks are an inspiration; your heart is in your giving and caring and it shows! Words cannot express how very thankful we are for all you did for us. We thank you so very much. When we look back at the happiest day (his release) of our lives - you're both included in our memories! I wanted to thank you all for everything you have done for us on our visits and all the other people who have helped. It was comforting to feel true compassion during this most difficult time (execution of husband)! I want to commend you on the peace I feel here! I am short on money this month and I do not think I could make it if it were not for these groceries! Thanks for opening your doors to our family in a time of need (execution). Also thanks for your comfort and prayers!
